Gotobus.com, Bus Trips and Selection From Boston to New York Made Easy.

Bus lines to cities like Boston and NY can be pricy if you don’t know where to look. Luckily, there are many sites online that offer great deals. One great new travel website called Gotobus.com is a great place to start. Gotobus allows you to browse through travel packages and tours to major US cities. They offer several discounts for buses along the Eastern seaboard, including service to New York City, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. In addition, they give great New England travel tips as well as info for hotel packages near their bus stops. Their site even provides info on European tours and international travel, including several historic small towns. Gotobus compares bus companies like World Wide and Lucky Star, as well as major travel tours through the East Coast. If you’re planning any sort of trip, Gotobus.com is a good place to start your search. Their site offers excellent travel tips and serves as a guide to everything from general price quotes to info on wine tours. And if you’re a New England college student, you’ll really enjoy the discount tickets on bus travel to New York City and Boston. A one-way fare for this route runs as low as $15.00 per ticket. The site also runs specials for several hotels and shows, allowing you to make the most of your trip.
Gotobus uses Lucky Star and World Wide bus lines. Lucky Star leaves from South Station in Boston and from Canal Street in NY’s Chinatown. If you have an extra hour or two before boarding in New York, be sure to stop at one of the several great Chinese restaurants by the station. World Wide Bus uses separate stops. Their line uses Penn Station in NYC and the Alewife Station in Boston. Alewife is the starting point on Boston’s “red line” subway route. World Wide might be a great choice for you if you plan on visiting Harvard, MIT, or downtown Boston. Their Alewife stop makes using Boston’s public transportation easy. Keep in mind, both lines offer access to public transport and tourist sites. Either choice would provide an excellent start to your vacation.
The bus between Boston and New York City is roughly 5 to 6 hours, depending on your driver and route. Of the two lines, World Wide is the line I recommend for comfort. Lucky Star is also a reliable line, and both offer great last minute deals through Gotobus. I strongly suggest planning your trip through Gotobus.com. Don’t let the name fool you. Even if you don’t think you’ll take a bus, Goto has several other deals. And by planning your vacation schedules through them, you’re sure to save a bundle.

Discount Bus Service from Providence to New York

Very few bus lines travel between Providence and New York City. And while there’s little difference between the services they offer, the major difference comes at the ticket counter. Greyhound Bus is the first line that comes to mind for most customers. Greyhound and Peter Pan Bus (owned by Greyhound) offer the bare minimum in comfort. While both lines are a bit cramped for space, they do have a good reputation for safety and service. Unlike the Fung Wah, their drivers are often commended for safety records. My last Greyhound driver was even helpful. But this kind of service also drives up their ticket prices. Even if you purchase tickets months before your travel date, seating on Greyhound and Peter Pan costs $37.00 one way or $74.00 round trip. Both lines also offer reserved seating, but for an additional fee. Military and student discounts are available. However, the student discount card does cost an extra $20.00. One plus that may be worth the price is that both lines offer stops in Cape Cod. With them, you may get to tour a bit more of New England while still keeping within your travel schedule. Greyhound offers information on Cape Cod destinations on their web site.

Megabus Service Boston to New York

The popular Megabus Boston to New York line now offers a line traveling between Providence and NYC. Megabus Boston To NY Service offers more on board extras than Greyhound. It sometimes costs less than half the price. Their seating is roomy and they always depart on time. They even offer free wi-fi. More notably, they offer daily discount deals at the ticket counter and online. You can even buy a cheap ticket a few hours before your departure. (Though I suggest a little advance planning.) Same day tickets usually cost $26.00 one-way. Round trip tickets are $52.00. That’s still cheaper than Greyhound. You can also buy a ticket for $9.00 if you purchase your tickets a month in advance. In some cases, you can even snag one of Megabus’ $1.00 etickets. It’s easy to buy one of these if you plan your trip at least two months in advance. Dollar tickets are sometimes only offered for certain days, so it helps if your travel group has flexible schedules.

Fung Wah Bus Service

If you’re a fan of the Fung Wah bus line, keep in mind that the Chinatown bus does not travel to Providence. The Fung Wah only buses from Boston to New York. In fact, not a single Rhode Island-bound bus departs from Chinatown. New routes are rumored to develop in the future. For now, the majority of buses depart from Penn Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Your other options for service between Providence and NY are by plane or train. Flights are expensive. Even a seat in coach can run over $200. And Amtrak can still be twice as expensive as Greyhound. Bus travel is a great option for a trip to a major city like Providence or New York because it leaves you more money to spend during your stay.

Bus Service from Providence Rhode Island To New York City Is Your Best Value…

Whichever bus line you choose, each line runs its tours through the same stations. In Providence, all buses stop at the public transit station between Union and Eddy Street on Fountain Street. In NYC, your boarding stop depends on which bus service you go with. Most buses have stops at Penn Station or Port Authority Bus Terminal. Both of these stops are close to great bistros and bargain hotels. Whether your destination is NY or Rhode Island, Megabus is by far the best option. And it’ll leave you with plenty of cash leftover for a night on the town.

Fung Wah Bus Line: The Scariest Way to Travel Between Boston & New York!

Bus Travel Boston To New York With Fung Wah Buses Will Be An Experience

There’s an old, old saying: “You get what you pay for.” This is certainly the case with Fung Wah Bus Service Boston To New York City or vice versa. This bus line is known by New York and Massachusetts students as a low-cost method of travel between cities. It’s also used by those who don’t mind giving up key comforts in return for a cheap ticket. Also known as the “Boston and New York’s Chinatown bus,” this line runs a direct route bus service from Boston’s to New York City’sChinatowns. The company is well established and has been around for over ten years. But before buying a Fung Wah ticket, there are a few things you might want to consider.

The Chinatown bus does offer cheap seats and last minute bookings. This is good if you have a loose schedule and simply need to hop on the next bus. If you’re used to reserving your seat, you should know that the Fung Wah is known to overbook their buses. But since they run roughly every 30 minutes, passengers usually end up catching the next one. If you have a flexible timeline and a small budget, the Fung Wah is a bus company you should consider. It comes in handy for impulsive plans to meet friends or sudden free time to visit the city. Their buses make the run several times per day, so you can be sure you’ll get a ticket at a low price. And because of their route between Chinatowns, you’re sure to spot some great Chinese restaurants along the way.

As on other bus lines, the bus from Boston and New York runs roughly 5 hours. This ride is quite long for most travelers. Luckily, drivers make a quick stop midway in Connecticut. Sadly, Fung Wah drivers aren’t known for their manners. In fact, my last driver left one of his passengers in the men’s room for taking too long! Recently, the Fung Wah has also become known for its failure to meet safety standards. The line has been in the news for fires, rollovers, lost wheels, and crashes. On top of this, most Fung Wah drivers aren’t trained to react in the event of a mishap. If you don’t mind taking the chance, then you won’t mind taking the Fung Wah. But if you’re looking for a more responsible bus line, you might want to go with another service.

Aside from reputation, there are also several comforts that Fung Wah buses fail to offer. Chinatown buses are typically short on extra legroom or seat space. For some customers, this is just fine. But for many, a seat on the Fung Wah presents a tight squeeze. Fung Wah buses also do not offer power outlets or wi-fi. These are not accessible on any buses, even for an extra fee. Much like Greyhound, the Fung Wah is very basic in what it offers its passengers. In their case, you get what you pay for. But if you check around, you may find a deal that offers more amenities for the same price. Boltbus and Megabus are two that I suggest. Boltbus offers free wi-fi and power outlets as well as extra seat space. Both are great bus lines for students and business commuters.

Tickets for the Fung Wah run $15.00 per person. They’re a well-known bus line because their price beats almost all other lines. Unfortunately, you can’t buy Fung Wah tickets on Gotobus.com. But etickets are available directly from the Fungwahbus.com website and at the counter. Many travelers prefer a quicker method of travel, like plane or Boston to New York Train Ride. But if you don’t mind the extra time spent driving, you can save hundreds on a ticket and baggage fees! In New York City, you can board the Fung Wah on Canal Street in Chinatown. Or you can also catch the bus at Boston’s South Station. Both stations are close to major tourist spots in both cities. Then again, most bus lines stop near major tourist spots. Since both cities have great forms of public transportation, don’t let station location sway you. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes you can find a $15.00 ticket that offers a more comfortable ride. Boltbus offers the same price if purchased online and in advance. And Megabus offers tickets as low as $13.00 when purchased online! In some cases, you can even buy a $1.00 Bolt or Megabus ticket. That’s if your trip is a couple months away.

For some, the Fung Wah is a line to keep in mind if you’re planning an impromptu weekend trip and you don’t have a set schedule. But for better lines at the same cost I recommend going to Gotobus.com to pick up a ticket online the night before. As someone who has frequented a number of bus lines that make the Boston to NY run, I suggest setting aside a little extra time to look into other bargain bus lines. A little extra time and effort is bound to pay off.

Amtrak Train Service Boston To New York Is a both a Cost & Time Effective Option.

A great way to travel is to take a train from Boston to New York. Bus lines like Lucky Star and Fung Wah bus line do offer cheaper transportation. However, Amtrak does offer different travel services that might make the extra fees worth it. Amtrak has several lines and shuttle trains that run through the East Coast. Of their Eastern lines, the train service route from Boston to New York is one of the easiest to use. On board, the biggest difference between bus and train service is the extra space trains offers. Amtrak trains are fairly roomy and have area to walk around in while on route. Trains also offer dining and snacking options in their lounge cars. Dining cars provide comfy group seating and space to play board games. The extra room is also good if you have special needs. You can find more details about meal and dining options on their website.
Travel schedules also differ between train and bus. By bus, the trip between cities is roughly 5 to 6 hours long. By train, the trip is only 3 hours. This extra time might come in handy if your trip is on a short schedule. The Amtrak website offers timetables for all Amtrak trains running through the Northeast. A scheduled Northeast Corridor timetable is linked to their main page. Since Amtrak trains don’t tend to run late, train service offers a quick and reliable way of traveling from city to city. And since Amtrak’s trains stop near famous tourist spots, their stations offer a great start to your trip.
If you’re usually a bus traveler and regularly take a bus from Boston to New York, your train station might differ from those of your former bus line. Instead of Port Authority, all trains depart from Penn Station in New York. In Boston, both Back Bay and South Station service Amtrak. Boston’s North Station does not service New York. You should only use North Station if your destination is Maine.

Boston To New York Amtrak Train Ticket Cost

If bought a couple days in advance, coach seats are hard to come by.
Last minute tickets start at $115.00 one-way for business class seats. A one-way first class ticket runs over $200. When purchased a month or two in advance, you can reserve a round trip coach fare for just under a hundred dollars. A seat in business or first class will always run more. Unlike bus lines, Amtrak does not offer $1.00 fares or weekend specials. Buying your round trip tickets a couple months in advance can save you hundreds. If you have the extra cash, Amtrak is a great way to travel. If you’re on a tight budget, it may be worth looking into bus lines that run the same route.
